Tap
Curriculum Director: Melissa Schwab
EAC’s Tap program blends musicality, rhythm, and strength to teach dancers how to create art through sound. Dancers develop precise footwork, timing, and control through dynamic choreography and foundational technique.
As dancers grow within our Tap curriculum, they learn not just steps, but the sound and intention behind those steps. Dancers explore how to count music, recognize tempo variation, and understand rhythmic structure—learning to identify and respond to both the melody line and the back-beat groove. This approach builds true musical awareness, preparing dancers to become both musicians and movers.
Improvisation is an essential component of Tap education at EAC. Through structured improv exercises, dancers learn to create their own feet-beats, layering rhythms, playing with accents, and exploring call-and-response patterning just like jazz musicians. Students gain the confidence and creativity to generate original sounds, variate timing, and even lead rhythmic phrases within a class setting.
Our goal: for every tap dancer to feel the music, hear the music, and become the music.
